2004 - Martry - AFL - Kilbride 2-05, St. Ultans 3-10
Kilbride's season petered out disapointedly with a poor performance
against St. Ultans. Injuries and sendings off did not help, but
in reality Kilbride were running on empty with many of the small
squad playing on with bad injuries. St. Ultans went on to be
promoted despite having exactly the same amount of points as
Kilbride and not having to play off for promotion.

2004 - Donaghmore - JFC - Kilbride 0-05, Ratoath 2-07
Kilbrides' recent bad run against Ratoath continued on in the
Junior Championship in Donaghmore. Kilbride never got going in
this match and never looked like getting the better of a well
drilled Ratoath team. Ratoath had a game plan which they stuck
to and in contrast Kilbride had no direction and no obvious game
plan. Ratoath were playing deep to ensure space for their two
tricky corner forwards to operate in – a tactic that generally
was fruitful. As a result of playing deep, it seemed that when
Kilbride got the ball into their forwards they were invariably
operating in a crowded area. Nonetheless, the Kilbride forwards
did not perform well on the day and never looked dangerous.
Ratoath started well and notched up some quick fire points.
Kilbride responded with some good possession but took a long
time to finally register a score courtesy of Dermot White, who
battled hard throughout but probably lacked support. Kilbride
were starting to get on top at midfield but Ratoath’s backs
were on top to restrict Kilbride to only one more score in the
half. Ratoath put a fine move together dragging Kilbrides backs
out of position to grab a goal from close range. The half time
score was a goal and 4 points for Ratoath to Kilbride’s
2. In the second half , Kilbride had more possession, due to
brave defending and some hard working performances from Richard
Bruton, Andy Rennicks, Pat McDonagh and Brian White. It was not
to be as Ratoath picked off some more points and a goal which
Kilbride will be disappointed with. Kilbride will now be looking
for revenge in a possible league final with Ratoath, however
Kilbride must first secure a result against St. Ultans to avoid
an end of season collapse.

2004 - Skryne - JFC - Kilbride 1-13, O'Mahonys 2-12
Kilbride's JFC ambitions were effectively dashed last Sunday
in Skryne. Kilbride went down to a solid if unspectacular O'Mahonys
side who roared ahead aided by a gale force wind. A mixture of
good approach play and accurate shooting helped them to a sizeable
lead midway through the first half. Kilbride managed to steady
the ship with a superb run and point from John Bruton as well
as pointed free's from David Harford into a fierce wind. Kilbride
went into
the
break
9 points
to
4
down.
After the break, Kilbride set about eating into the O'Mahonys
lead with the wind at their backs. For a 20 minute spell Kilbride
dominated the game. Points from Finbarr Clarke, Jeff Sheridan,
David Harford and some fantastic scores from Dermot White helped
Kilbride turn a five point deficit into a three point lead with
a couple of minutes to go. O'Mahonys gamely fought back and a
crossfield shot was punched to the net by Darren O'Toole, who
was on the goalline when scoring. Kilbride argued in vain for
a square ball decision but the Navan O'Mahony's umpire was not
likely to overrule the goal and the referee did not feel the
need to ask for an explanation. Kilbride are now free to concentrate
on gaining promotion in the league.

2004 - St. Pauls - AFL - Kilbride 1-12, St. Pauls 0-09
Eight consecutive wins in the league is a nice record to register
at any time, but Kilbride know everything could fizzle out very
quickly
at this time of the year. St. Pauls have not been going well,
but local derby's do not go to form and so it proved. St. Pauls
came out fighting and put in some heavy hits, which seemed to
put Kilbride off their gameplan. Early points from David Harford
and Jeff Sheridan gave Kilbride a platform, but they self distructed
for the rest of the first half. St. Pauls realised the direction
of the game and upped their physical approach, while making
sure their forwards held on to the ball, which resulted in very
few free's against them and a multitude of free's in Kilbride
territory. Indeed , 80% of St. Pauls scores came from dead balls.
In the second half Kilbride changed their gameplan and played
with more width, laying the ball off quicker and not giving
St. Pauls a chance to get stuck in. Points from David Harford,
Finbarr Clarke, Brian White and Jeff Sheridan drove Kilbride
ahead and a goal from 40 yards from David Harford ( later claimed
by Joe Barron ) finished the game as a contest. A great goaline
block from Richard Bruton saved a certain St. Pauls goal and
despite numerous chances from deadballs, St. Pauls could not
escape defeat.

Kilbride continued their revival in the Championship Group of
Death against Drumbaragh on a warm night in Bective. Kilbride
started like a train and should have been out of sight midway
through the first half but for some indecisive play. Points from
David Harford,Andy Rennicks, Ollie Nolan and Brian White edged
Kilbride ahead, but Drumbaragh kept plugging away. Kilbride went
into
the break,
0-8 points to 0-5 ahead.
After the interval, Kilbride edged ahead again with Richard
Bruton and Andy Rennicks gaining the upper hand at midfield and
Robert Bruton launching most attacks. Drumbaragh threw everything
at Kilbride but the defence held out bravely and Kilbride collected
another 2 points

2004 - Kilbride - AFL - Kilbride 1-10, Kilmainham 1-04
Kilbride made it 7 wins on the trot in the league with a hard
fought win over a determined Kilmainham side. Kilbride started
well and dominated the first 15 minutes of play, but were guilty
of not converting their chances. Kilmainham made them pay and
converted a goal from a long high ball in to the full forward
line. Kilmainham had the better of the midfield and won a lot
of kickouts in the first half. In windy conditions, both sides
made elementary mistakes in general play. Kilbride remained steady
and managed to notch scores before the half from Finbarr Clarke,
Brian White and David Harford, going in at the break 1 point
up , but it could have been so much more.
In the second half , Kilbride started well, faded and then finished
well to close off the win. After an initial Kilbride burst, Kilmainham
played better scoring some nice points and having a goal disallowed
for a square ball, the scorer was not the offender. Two substitutes
, Ollie Nolan and Robbie Rooney contibuted valuable scores to
edge Kilbride over the finish line. With a few minutes to go
Rooney intercepted a kickout, passed to Dermot White who drew
the keeper and passed to Ollie Nolan , who fisted to the net.
A great point by Richard Bruton, was followed by a well taken
point by Robbie Rooney to end the Kilmmainham challenge and edge
closer ahead in the league.

2004 - Kilbride - AFL - Kilbride 0-12, Rathkenny 0-10
Kilbride registered their 6th win on the trot in the league
against Rathkenny in Kilbride to move to the top of division
4 with 4 rounds left. Kilbride are now playing confidently
, with all parts of the team linking well. Kilbride's midfield
got on top early, with the half backs and half forwards picking
up plenty of breaks. Overall Kilbride created plently of scoring
opportunities throughout the match, but were very wasteful. Against
better opposition, Kilbride would have been made to pay for some
bad wides and some sloppy passing, but their general good team
play kept Rathkenny at bay. Points from David Harford and Brian
White helped Kilbride to a 0-8 to 0-5 lead at the break.
It was more of the same after the break, with Rathkenny never
overrunning the Kilbride backs. Rathkenny brought a corner forward
out to midfield, but this move helped Kilbride more as they enjoyed
the lions share of possession. Points from Ollie Nolan and Joe
Barron helped to steady the ship after a 10 minute period when
Kilbride kicked wide after wide. Kilbride have 4 remaining games
against Kilmainham, St. Pauls, St. Ultans and Moynalty with promotion
in their own hands.

2004 - Dunsany - JFC - Kilbride 2-10, Ballinabrackey 1-11
Kilbride laid the platform for a vital jfc victory in Dunsany,
by producing a near perfect first half against Ballinabrackey.
From the very first minute, Kilbride set an electric pace, which
never let up throughout the game. From the off, Kilbrides midfield
of Richard Bruton and Andy Rennicks held the whip hand , giving
good ball in to the forwards who made good use of it. Early points
from Dermot White, Finbarr Clarke, Brian White and a goal from
David Harford meant that Ballinabrackey were struggling before
they even caught their breath. Kilbride went in at the break,
7 points to the good.
Ballinabrackey were much improved in the second half, but a
combination of tight defending from Kilbride and bad shooting
meant that Ballinabrackey couldn't make inroads into the Kilbride
lead. A sucker punch of a goal came midway through the second
half, when Andy Rennicks and Ollie Nolan setup David Harford
for a well taken goal. In the last minute, Ballinabrackey scored
a deflected goal, but it was too little too late and Kilbride
march on.

2004 - Drumbaragh - AFL - Kilbride 0-12, Drumbaragh 1-8
Kilbride
registered their fifth consecutive win in the league
against a spirited Drumbaragh side last Tuesday evening. Kilbride
started
at a ferocious pace, causing all sorts of trouble for the Drumbaragh
defence. Despite registereing some nice scores, Kilbride should
have been out of sight at half time, but for a freak goal by
Drumbaragh just before the break.
In the second
half, Drumbaragh were a much improved side. Kilbride pushed
ahead with points from Finbarr Clarke and David Harford . Some
excellent frees kept Kilbride in the driving seat, however
Kilbride eased off and Drumbaragh took the initiative with
some fine points. Kilbride were dragged deeper into their own
half, as Drumbaragh came to within a point of Kilbride. Crucially,
Drumbaragh missed a close in free with the last kick of the
game to let Kilbride off the hook.

2004 - Bective - JFC - Kilbride 0-14, Moynalty 1-8
Kilbride put in a fine team performance last Saturday night
to put Moynalty to the sword. Kilbride had men back from injury
/ exams and this benefitted the overall balance of the team.
Moynalty registered the first score and looked to be moving well
in the
first half,
Kilbride
then
got going and edged into a lead that they were never to relinquish.
Kilbride also lost midfielder Robbie Rooney who was playing well
at the time. Points from Brian White, Dermot White, David Harford
and Joe Barron
helped
to edge
Kilbride
into
a deserved
lead.
Kilbride
turned the corner when they started to get
the upper
hand at midfield and went into the interval with a 3 point lead.
Moynalty were never dead though, and some very determined defending
from the Kilbride backs helped to restrict their comeback. Kilbride
managed to keep up a fast pace to their game and this momentum
helped them to close off the game. Some fine fielding at midfield
helped to take the pressure off Kilbride at various stages and
in general the movement in the forwards was good, which unsettled
the Moynalty backline. Points from Finbar Clarke, Brian White
and David Harford pushed the game beyond the reach of Moynalty
at a crucial time in the match. Even a late goal from a Moynalty
Free was just too little to late, as Kilbride stay alive for
now in the group of death.

18th May 2004 - Ratoath - JFC
- Kilbride 1-04, Dunsany 1-9
Despite missing numerous regulars in crucial positions, Kilbride
will still feel that they could have given a better account of
themselves against a sharp Dunsany outfit, who will harbour ambitions
of winning the JFC outright. On the night Dunsany were a more
cohesive unit than Kilbride who only played in fits and starts.
It must be noted that the Dunsany full forward line were outstanding
and will take some stopping. If they had been more clinical the
game might have been over earlier as a contest. Similarly Kilbride's
free taking on the night could not have been worse with at least
7 frees most of them not far out.
Dunsany were quick out of the traps, notching some quickfire
scores to lead by 4 points to no score before a David Barron
goal brought Kilbride back into the game. Cruelly Dunsany added
a goal of their own and a couple of points for good measure.
Going into halftime it was hard to see how Kilbride were going
to come by scores, not creating much and unable to put away the
frees. However in the second half, Kilbride were much improved
at least in general play - having much the better of the possession.
Scores from Finbar Clarke and Dermot White edged Kilbride forward,
while Dunsany were restricted to a few points - 1 from a highly
contested penalty. In the last few minutes, Kilbride had at least
2 very good goal chances as well as a few well placed frees to
snatch a result that would have been scarcely deserved.

15th May 2004 - Kilbride - AFL
- Kilbride 0-11, Bective 0-9
Kilbride came out of the blocks well against Bective in the
fifth round of the league last Saturday evening in Kilbride.
The conditions were perfect for a clean game of football and
so it proved in the first half for Kilbride. Points from Brian
White, David Harford and Dermot White helped to establish a sizeable
lead. The Kilbride backline were outstanding, tackling tigerishly
and staying tight to their men. It was at a cost however as David
Cully and then Conor Rennicks limped off before half time.
After the break, Bective upped the ante and started to dominate
in the air, especially from Kilbride Kickouts. With Kilbride
unable to get out of their own half, Bective tagged on some fine
scores. At this stage Kilbride were able to get some scores on
the break from Robbie Rooney and Dermot White to squeeze out
a win with not a lot to spare. In the final minute, Kilbride
had a contentious goal from Joe Barron disallowed when the Bective
Umpire convinced the referee that the ball had not crossed the
line.
Kilbride
players and supporters were incensed, but were happy to settle
for a win which makes it four wins in a row in the league.

Moynalvey 0-10
Kilbride lost the first game of the championship, continuing
the trend of the last few years at Dunshaughlin last Saturday
night. On a terrible night for football it was Moynalvey who
adapted to the conditions and managed to play an attractive game.
Amazingly it was Kilbride who settle quicker and they dominated
the first 15 minutes, but crucially added only a single point
through Robbie Rooney. Moynalvey went on to dominate the next
20 minutes missing two great goal chances , but contrastingly
they added on 8 points to go in at the break 0-8 to 0-1 leaders.
After the resumption, Kilbride looked a different team but they
left themselves too much to do. A ooint by David Harford and
a goal by Robbie Rooney gave some hope , before Robbie Rooney
was sent off. Moynalvey scored some long range frees and defended
well to close out a deserved win. Moynalvey will not be beaten
easily this year, but if Kilbride could have played to potential
the score could have been a lot closer. Next up Dunsany and a
crucial match.

St. Mary's 0-5
Kilbride registered a third straight
win in the league over St. Mary's last Saturday evening. St.
Mary's started brightly, utilising the wind to good effect.
St. Mary's lorded it at midfield for the first twenty minutes
and scored some nice points. Kilbride's backs held tight at
this stage and restriced St. Mary's to 4 points, despite their
posession. Indeed after 30 minutes Kilbride registered their
first score of the
match
from a David
Harford
free, to go into half time 4 points to 1 down. Kilbride wasted
a lot of possession in the first half and the forwards failed
to settle.
After half time, Kilbride settled
somewhat and started to take the game to St. Marys who did
not have the answers. Brian White , Finbar Clarke and David
Harford added further points. St. Mary's lost their discipline
with the referee and this did not help their cause. The 2nd
half score was 7 points to 1 and Kilbride ran in comfortable
winners at the end. Kilbride have now 6 points now and are
in the business end of the league table. Paddy O'Neill had

Kilbride enjoyed a tight win over
battling Moylagh in windswept Oldcastle on Sunday. The conditions
were awful, with a driving wind, heavy rain at times and a
waterlogged pitch. Kilbride settled fast and played some good
football in the opening 20 minutes against the wind racing
to a 3 point lead after points from Brian White and Dermot
White. Moylagh gave away a lot of frees in the opening period
and suffered
with
their
centre
back sent
from
the field for two yellow cards. Moylagh then enjoyed a purple
patch and the half ended at 0-4 points apiece. In the second
half conditions deteriorated with neither side playing
particularly well. Moylagh probably had the best of the second
half, but failed to put points on the board and kilbride crept
ahead. However, just when Moylagh, threatened to come back
into the
game, Dermot White got a long range point to edge Kilbride
towards victory. Moylagh had another man sent off with a few
minutes to go and rallied, but Kilbride held on for the valuable
points. .

2-11, St. Vincents 2-04
Kilbride registered a sweet victory
on Sunday at home, over St. Vincents to avenge last years loss
in Ardcath. Kilbride played an effective game, playing good
football into a strong wind, despite missing key players through
injury. The midfield and half backs gave a great supply of
ball to
the
forwards
who
used
it to
good
effect. Kilbride took a 2 point lead with points from Brian
White, Dermot White and David Harford. Then Vincents got a
goal against the run of play, only for Kilbride to instantly
equalise through Dermot White. Two quick goals followed for
each side in a high scoring first half, with Kilbride going
in a point to the good.
Kilbride kept plugging away in
the second half, with a series of well taken points. Vincents
then started to chase the game, but could not convert their
possession into scores. In the final ten minutes there was
some great defending by the Kilbride backs who held firm despite
strong pressure. Overall Kilbride's 13 scores to Vincents 6
was the difference between the sides. Kilbride are now off
the mark in the league and will hope to continue

vein

8th February 2004 - Ratoath
1-7 , Kilbride 0-6
Ratoath started off
their season with a win over Kilbride at their new ground last
Sunday. Kilbride
started the better team, racking up early scores through well
taken David Harford frees. The referee insured a stop
start game, with play seemingly stopped every few seconds.
Dermot White was showing up very well at full forward and causing
the Ratoath full back untold trouble. Kilbride had built up
a 3 points to 1 lead, when a huge kick out from
the
Ratoath
Goalkeeper,
was
caught
in
the
Ratoath
Half forward line and resulting pass resulted in a goal. This
was a cruel blow to Kilbride , who responded positively through
points from Brian White and David Harford, to go in at half
time marginally ahead.
The second half was a different story
with Ratoath upping a gear and easing away from Kilbride.
Ratoaths full forward line started to receive early ball and
they took
their scores or won frees with ease. Kilbride tried to rally,
with Andrew Rennicks starting to impose himself at midfield,
but never really got going and Ratoath were deserved winners.
Despite this, Kilbride could have taken something from the
game, with a crossbar being rattled and a few bad wides ,
but it was'nt to be.
Kilbride will have to play better to beat St. Vincents in 2
weeks time.
